First off I have a Kobalt box from Lowes. There is a handle on each side (Drivers and Passengers) with a rod connecting them so you can use either to open the box. With this setup you have to relocate these mechanisms. You have to be VERY careful removing these pieces in order not to ruin things. I think some added parts to this kit could elevate/at lest ease the install process. Over all it is a good package though. You need to be rather mechanical minded to install. And a large, good quality rivet tool is a must!Bought this a while back for a UWS box to go on my truck. Works perfectly and keeps me from having to keep track of another key. To install it you drill out the rivets on the existing handle, rivet in the new handle, key the lock and install it. Took me about 30 as I was careful drilling the rivets and 10 minutes of that was fighting with the cheap rivet gun I bought. When I transferred it to my new truck I looked for just the lock but could not find one available for later model Toyota keys. I bought another one and just used the lock portion again. This is not a bullet proof product but it is a bullet proof as the rest of the hardware on a typical aluminum truck box.Nice design. Strong lock and latch. Issue comes down to missing parts to contact rod to other side latch. Had to make my own. This kit should come with the rod adapter or something. When i lock up the cylinder and tool box is LOCKED it can be opened up form the other side because the latch is too looseI had to get a washer to get it to fit properly. Otherwise great product. Never look for the key to the truck box!Update: I have replaced this twice now. They sure don't last long. I keep getting locked out of my toolbox every few months.Update: Continues to fail. Installed another replacement, lock failed immediately. Can I give less than 1 star?Once installed the locking arm that drops when the key is turned to the locked position easily deflected when the handle was lifted, this allowed the toolbox to open. The arm is held on by a snap rig that allows quite a bit of play. Maybe I just got a bad one, but I can't see how this design could withstand any kind of force. I will be sticking with the original lock and latch.Great fit great productThe latch on the bolt is much smaller than the original and the clip that holds it is flimsy. You can pull the handle and open it in the locked position. Great idea poor execution. It gets one star because star rating is required to post.
