As a father of two and a manger, I found the Professional Development Toolbox to be a great resource. It is written for anyone who wants to create a professional development plan that is systematic, forward looking, and useful. Using sports coaching as a context, Martin Klubeck has included both principle and the practical in a way that makes the book useful as a learning tool and as a reference. I believe this book has value for executives looking to improve organizational efficacy, managers aiming to strengthen employees, and individuals focusing on their own growth. On a personal level I like the book and am already finding value in it. I've begun the process of enumerating tasks with the help of one of my teams and plan to begin with the second team soon. Additionally, I think I can adjust the methods presented to help me as the father of 2 grade schoolers.I was concerned that sports coaching context (used throughout the book) would reduce the book's value to me since I am bored by sports of all sorts. I did not find that to be the case and I imagine there are many folks who would find that context to be a big bonus.I think there are many people who would like to focus on their own development beyond what their manager or organization is prepared to do. Therefore, I wish there was a section on how to modify the methods for use by individuals looking to plan their own professional development. The content of this book is practical and applicable. I would have given the book 5 stars if it had a section specifically for individuals wanting to make their own development plans.
